Subject Matter Experts
SMEs whose work would make a good addition to the knowledge base include those individuals who write about translation and localization fluently in English for the United States and Spanish for Latin America for other SMEs within the field. Broadly, demographic diversity in the SMEs listed is an objective for this knowledge base.

Reliability Ratings
The writing of SMEs whose work is included in the T&L Knowledge Base is rated for reliability based upon their proficiency in the preferred language variants of the knowledge base. Definitions for reliability ratings are given below.
- ★★ – Mother Variant, Working Variant(?) or Works with an Editor who is fluent in the Mother Variant
- ★ – Mother Language, Working Language or Works with an Editor who is fluent in the Mother Language
Proficiency in the Preferred Language Variants
The labels used to indicate proficiency in the language variant are informed by the ILR Writing Level descriptions.
Proficiency in EN-US
- Mother Variant – SME who writes fluently in English for the United States
- Mother Language – SME who writes fluently in another variant of English
- Working Variant – SME who writes in English for the United States at a professional level
- Working Language – SME who writes in another dialect of English at a professional level
- Works with an Editor of the Variant – SME who writes in English whose work is edited by an editor who writes fluently in English for the United States (through journal publications, for example)
- Works with an Editor of the Language – SME who writes in English whose work is edited by an editor who writes fluently in another variant of English (through journal publications, for example)
Proficiency in ES-LATAM
- Mother Variant – SME who writes fluently in Spanish for Latin America
- Mother Language – SME who writes fluently in another variant of Spanish (i.e. Spanish for Spain)
- Working Variant – SME who writes in Spanish for Latin America at a professional level
- Working Language – SME who writes in another variant of Spanish (i.e. Spanish for Spain) at a professional level
- Works with an Editor of the Variant – SME who writes in Spanish whose work is edited by an editor who writes fluently in Spanish for Latin America (through journal publications, for example)
- Works with an Editor of the Language – SME who writes in Spanish whose work is edited by an editor who writes fluently in another variant of Spanish (i.e. Spanish for Spain) (through journal publications, for example)
